Organize the family socks

30 Dec

Ever find yourself frustrated as you wash the kids laundry?

Our socks forever missing. Lost in footed pajamas or sheet corners, thrown behind the beds….or a myriad of other places. I have been working on a better solution.

Color coded sock bags for each child.

20131230-062528.jpgMade for the normal netting fabric I found this in the utility section at JoAnn Fabrics. For each bag I used a 45″ x 16″ piece of fabric. I folded the top down slightly to create a little pocket for the hangar to set in (shown in the picture below)

20131230-062522.jpgUsing wire hangers I didn’t need to make an opening for the hangar to come through the top as it fits through the mesh holes. I did try to use plastic hanger but they didn’t fit.

A couple of months ago I was reading Raising Arrows blog, written by the mother of a large family and she suggested color-coding. I thought this was a great idea and so with strips of double-fold bias tape I outlined one in red for my son and one in purple for my daughter.

Once the sewing was finished I threaded a length of durable cord through the holes around the opened and attached a closure.

When the bag is ready for the laundry I pull it tight and voila.
